TERESHCHENKO FAMILY AND THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY

The Tereshchenko Emeralds

Did you know, that before the events of 1917, the Family managed to take in to England most of their fortune, and most importantly – beautiful emeralds. It’s a show-stopping emeralds, and necklace itself, created from clusters of square or rectangular emeralds surrounded by diamonds with a central pendant, reputedly belonging to Queen Marie Antoinette . Princess Nadezhda Tereshchenko sold her emeralds to her close friend, Margaret Greville, so that she presented them as a gift to the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, meaning in possession of the British Royal Family. Margaret Greville bequeathed all her jewels to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

It is rumoured, that an emerald necklace said to have belonged to Empress Josephine de Beauharnais (remarkable, House of Beauharnais, as well as Duke of Leuchtenberg, is presented by marriages in the Tereshchenko family pedigree), and a diamond necklace allegedly from Queen Marie Antoinette.

But despite its origins, today, repeatedly, this necklace is identified as an 18th century emerald necklace from Marie Antoinette. It is reported as a serious emerald necklace in the Royal Collection Trust with such a rumored provenance, owned and worn by such four prominent women of history as: Empress Josephine de Beauharnais, Queen Marie Antoinette, Princess Nadezhda Tereshchenko Mouravieff-Apostol Korobiena and the Queen Mother of Great Britain.
